The base of your kitty’s skin is probably oily and hair is getting caught up. It may feel soft and silky, but that’s just the oils. Once the hair gets caught in that oily base, it packs until it forms small knots, eventually matting.

Yes, kitties secrete oils, more than dogs. As the oil lays on the skin, hair that should shed gets caught in that oily base and before you know it, we have a knot. A warm water degreasing bath is what every cat needs. Start them young, before it’s needed, then when they’re older they’ll love it.
